Begin at Old Market Square
Old Market Square and the Council House provide a clear starting point in central Nottingham. From here, shopping streets, theatres and places to eat lead into different parts of the centre. The Lace Market and Hockley offer another character, with historic buildings, independent businesses and creative activity.
Spend time around the square, then choose a direction: Hockley and the Lace Market for independent businesses, the theatre streets for an evening out, or another part of the centre for shopping. Each gives a different introduction to Nottingham.
Look beyond the centre for everyday services
Nottingham’s neighbourhoods include places such as Mapperley, Sherwood, Radford, Aspley, Bilborough, Bulwell and Wollaton. Their shops, garages, cafes and practitioners often serve customers who have no reason to travel into the central shopping streets.
Use the location on each listing when arranging a visit. A mobile trader can cover several neighbourhoods without having a public branch in each one.
Separate the city from the wider county
West Bridgford, Beeston, Carlton, Arnold, Hucknall, Cotgrave and Keyworth are distinct communities around Nottingham. They are not all within Nottingham City Council’s boundary, and a Nottingham postal address can cover a much wider area.
This directory includes selected nearby businesses where their actual base is clear. For council services, use the authority responsible for the property rather than relying on the city name in an address.
Plan around the destination
Choose the attraction, appointment or shop you most want to visit, then check current travel information and the precise entrance. A short central walk and a trip to Wollaton or a surrounding town need different amounts of time.
Our other guides help you choose between a central visit, a shopping trip and a connection with a local group. Nottingham’s neighbourhoods and surrounding towns give the directory a wider everyday purpose than the main visitor streets alone.
